The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agencys Lab at Offutt Air Force Base
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agencys lab at Offutt Air Force Base has a special mission: identify the remains of missing soldiers, sailors and airmen from past wars. Dr. Kari Brown will tell us their latest successes in that mission.

Synopsis

Flight Captain, Dick Williams called the March 21, 2018, Le May 16 Flight, Daedalian Meeting to order at 11:30 A.M. with 30 members and 2 guests present. Ray Anderson offered the invocation, Dick Williams led the Pledge of Allegiance and acting Provost Marshall, Jim Maloney offered toasts. A corned beef and cabbage entrée or chef’s salad was served. Following the meal, Dr. Carrie Brown from The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s Lab at Offutt Air Force Base gave a very interesting presentation on the Agency’s latest efforts to identify the remains of missing soldiers, sailors and airmen from past wars. Her current project is identifying remains of sailors from the USS Oklahoma which was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She also spoke about one of the most recent remains identified, that of WWII pilot, Lt. William Shank, a P-38 pilot in the 338th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, who was shot down over Germany in 1943. A thank you letter was received for our Flight’s donation to the WWI Memorial Monument to be located in the Memorial Garden at the AF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Two new members, Bruce Mundie and Don Kelly were inducted into the Order. Dick Purdum won the Scholarship Fund “lottery” at this meeting. With no further business to be conducted, Flight Captain Williams adjourned the meeting at 1:00 P.M.
