Lt. Col. Robert “Bob” K. Renn, 93, retired Air Force, peacefully passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013. Bob was the second son born to Claude and Irene Renn of Sunbury, Pa., on Oct. 10, 1920. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. During his European tour, he completed 37 bombing runs over Germany. He achieved the World War II Victory Medal, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Service continued in the Philippines and the U.S. until his discharge in May 1947. Upon graduation from TCU, he re-enlisted in the Air Force to complete his military career of 28 years. Before his civilian retirement, he was an accountant and was employed by GM, Bell Helicopter in Iran and LTV. On May 24, 1945, he married Martha Jane Hidlay in Valdosta, Ga. They were married over 58 years. His love of the military continued with his lifetime associations with Order of Daedalians, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society and the 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. Additionally, he was active with the Elks and Masons. He enjoyed following Melanie’s soccer career as well as keeping up with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in Virginia. Other interests included NASCAR, the Rangers and travel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha J. Renn; brother, Clyde Renn; and sister-in-law, Meriethel Renn. Survivors: Daughter, Marlo Taylor and husband, Mike; son, David Renn and wife, Bonnie; granddaughters, Melanie Taylor and Cheri Irish; grandson, Chris Renn; and six great-grandchildren.
